Centipedes are arthropods with long segmented bodies and a pair of legs on each body segment; giving them many legs (between 20 to 300, depending on the species). These legs are always found in an odd number. The final pair of legs often acts as a second pair of antennae, allowing the centipede a great range of sense around itself. The body of a centipede is usually some shade of brown or red.

Centipedes are nocturnal carnivorous predators, spending most of their time seeking food. They have a paralytic poison in their bite that they use to immobilize their prey. They then consume their helpless target while it is still alive. The average centipede will consume earthworms, lizards, small birds, and amphibians. They tend to attack and consume those creatures that their small jaws can penetrate more easily.

On some planets, centipedes – like other insects – can reach incredibly large sizes. This can make them a threat to humanoids and animals. This giant centipede is about 5-7 feet long. It hunts humanoids and small animals that dwell in or near the forest.
