SPECIAL ABILITIES

Create Spawn (Su)

A living creature slain by a wraithwing’s shadow strafe attack becomes a wraith in 1d4 rounds. These spawn are under the command of the wraithwing that created them until its destruction, at which point they become free-willed wraiths. They do not possess any of the abilities they possessed in life.

Light Dependence (Su)

Without a bright light source, a wraithwing is unable to use its shadow strafe ability.

Shadow Strafe (Su)

The wraithwing flies up to its speed and makes an attack roll as it tries to catch up to four targets in its shadow. The attack roll is against the targets’ EAC. On a successful attack roll, the targets take 2d6+7 negative energy damage and must make a DC 15 Fortitude save or take 1d6 points of Constitution damage.

ECOLOGY

Environment any land
Organization solitary, pair, or flock (3-6)

These undead are dinosaurs animated and controlled by the magically-powerful Saurians to serve as protectors of their sacred territories. As dinosaurs die, or are slain, the Saurian necromancers transform the bodies of the fallen behemoths to create these specialized undead. Being possessed by the spirits of dead Saurians, the unextinct enjoy intelligence and supernatural powers far beyond those of a normal animated corpse.

The wraithwing is a specialized type of unextinct created from the dead forms of flying pterosaurs: pteranodons, pterodactyls, and the like. The physical body of the wraithwing functions like a flying zombie; a basic animated dead. However, what makes the wraithwing terrifying – and gives the creature its namesake – is the undead’s shadow.

When the wraithwings, shadow passes over a living creature, that creature is affected as though by the life-draining touch of a wraith! Where a standard wraith loses its power when exposed to sunlight, the wraithwing relies on the sun to have a shadow to cast upon its enemies.
