SPECIAL ABILITIES

Desecrate Aura (Su)

The ascended mummy constantly projects an aura similar to the desecrate spell (see Starfarer’s Companion). The ascended mummy counts as a permanent fixture to its higher power. The bonuses from this ability are already figured in to the ascended’s traits.

Rejuvenation (Su)

When an ascended mummy is destroyed, necromantic energies rebuild its body in its tomb over 1d10 days. If the reforming body is destroyed during that time, the process restarts anew. A slain ascended mumiyah can be destroyed permanently with a consecrate spell.

ECOLOGY

Environment any
Organization solitary, pair, or court (2 ascended mummys and 2-6 mummy guardians)

Mummies are the undead guardians of tombs and vaults of honored dead (such as kings or nobility of the precursor worlds). They patrol their homes with dedication, remaining alert for signs of tomb robbers or others who would desecrate their assigned lair.

The creation of a mummy is a long and gruesome process, involving separating the internal organs of the prepared body. The body is then wrapped in expensive linens and anointed with sacred oils.

When the tomb is finally sealed, the mummy awakens in an undead state.

Mummies are granted great strength. They also carry a virulent curse that acts as a disease. This affliction – known as mummy rot – causes the flesh of its victims to rot away, leaving gruesome scars and disfiguring the unfortunate soul before finally expiring from the wasting disease. While the creation of mummies has mostly fallen out of fashion, ancient civilizations and precursor worlds still have several ruins and tombs where mummies are encountered by unfortunate explorers and archaeologists. In particular the mummy – pregenitors of the deoxyian species – use this form of undead creation to maintain their biological modifications into undeath.
