Darkmantles are small subterranean magical beasts that lurk along the ceilings of cave, caverns, and buried ruins. Like bats, they use their body to hang upsidedown for long periods of time. In natural surroundings, they conceal themselves among hanging stalactites.

When living creatures pass below the darkmantles, these creatures swoop down and envelop their prey.

Before they attack, the darkmantles use a natural ability to generate darkness as a means to confuse their targets. The darkmantles are not bothered by this darkness, as they can rely on echolocation to target their prey.

A darkmantle is about 4 feet long from the tips of its tentacles to the top of its head. It weighs about 30 pounds (3 bulk).
